Fall Training, Morning Session Only: So Much More Than Beautiful: Inviting Depth Through Messy Art Materials in CCPT

Messy art materials offer children opportunities to communicate, regulate, and process experiences beyond words. In this experiential workshop, participants will explore the clinical value of tactile and sensory-based art materials through a child-centered informed play therapy approach. Drawing from expressive arts therapy, the Expressive Therapies Continuum, Sensorimotor Art Therapy, and trauma-informed practice, participants will examine how different art materials support development, emotional expression, and therapeutic change. Through hands-on art making, reflection, and clinical discussion, therapists will deepen their understanding of how messy materials can foster creativity, resilience, and meaningful therapeutic relationships.
